| Apple IIc goes for $2600
WEB developer Dan Budiac has just shelled out $2,600 for a 20 year old Apple IIc on eBay. While many 'vintage' PCs change hands for a few dollars it seems this Apple did not lose its expensive price tag. This is partly because it was still in its box and never switched on. However if it was difficult to find software for 20 years ago, it is next to near impossible to find it now, but like many fan boys Budiac does not seem to care much. Apparently he had been mightily miffed when his father sold the family one in 1989. Once the got the machine home he opened it and stayed up until 4 o'clock in the morning playing Oregon Trail. He filmed the unboxing on Flickr and the showing has become an overnight sensation with 2.5 million visits from fanboys with nothing better to do with their lives.
McCain closing deal: No new taxes
The National Archives admits there may be an additional 3,022,030 textual records, 2,884 pages of electronic records, 1,021 photographs, 3 videotapes and 3 audiotapes related to the Task Force that the Clintons are withholding indefinitely from the public. On November 2, 2007 Judicial Watch filed a lawsuit with the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia against the National Archives to force the release of all the Task Force records. These documents paint a disturbing picture of how Hillary Clinton and the Clinton administration approached health care reform secrecy, smears, and the misuse of government computers to track private and political information on citizens, said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. There are millions more documents that the Clinton Library has yet to release.

INDIANAPOLIS TO CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- You can learn a lot about a fella by the way he deals with stress. Me? I suck down a smoke -- and then cut and run. Not Ron Artest. No, when Ron's number is called, the Sacramento Kings forward goes to the hole. Literally. "It happens whenever I get nervous," Artest admits. This is a peculiar yet telling statement. See, Artest didn't feel this way before walking the aisle and most certainly not before NBA contests, playing in the All-Star Game or even before Game 6 of Round 1 in the Western Conference playoffs last season. No, Artest can roll with all that. But this is a different tale altogether. Sitting in a fast-moving stretch H2 for a three-hour Indy-to-Champaign trek, flanked by eight of his closest Queensbridge Projects pals, Artest is forecasting a nervous night because in several hours he'll open for Ludacris at a rap concert at the University of Illinois -- where many people will be holding drinks and other potentially airborne projectiles.

Michael Rivera Guillen had his head stuck out the window and was moving it back and forth, back and forth, like the pendulum on a grandfather clock. This was the 5-year-old's first time on a train. "I wanted to share the experience with my grandchildren," said Rivera's grandmother, Xinia Durán Meza, who said it was her first time on the train as well. "It's enchanting," she said, "everything is so beautiful." The Tren a la Tica is one of the oldest in Central America, opening to the public in 1903. It ran for the first time as an electric train in 1930 and is the second oldest of its kind in Latin America, according to train officials. At the height of the era, the train institute employed over 3,000 people. The train was shut down in 1995 under President Jose María Figures Olsen but finally reopened in 2001 with the help of a tourist organization called American Travel.
Agency that protects consumers is in need of help
I recall a time when product recalls were infrequent. But lately, hazardous toys and other household products are in the news almost daily. A huge increase in imports from China, where oversight is not as stringent as in the U.S., is partly to blame, as well as manufacturers that use lead paint on toys. Some consumer advocates say only a small percentage of dangerous products are actually removed from stores. .
Brown prepared to ban plastic bags
Gordon Brown has given his strongest indication yet that he could outlaw free plastic bags. Writing in a national newspaper, the prime minister urged all major retailers to do more to eliminate single-use plastic bags. In November, Mr Brown told supermarkets they needed to find ways of cutting plastic use, with the government and retailers agreeing a voluntary commitment to cut plastic bag use by 25 per cent. Today Mr Brown praised Ikea's policies, which have seen it cut plastic bag use by 95 per cent, and Marks and Spencer's recent decision to charge for bags. Reportedly, ministers are prepared to legislate against single-use plastic bags if retailers cannot find ways of reducing their use. Legislation could be brought forward this year via an amendment to the climate change bill, which will set legally-binding targets to reduce UK carbon emissions.
Clemens, Gagne, Zaun on Mitchell's list
Former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell unveiled his report on performance-enhancing drugs in Major League Baseball Thursday. The much-anticipated 311-page report revealed the names of numerous players who purchased and possibly used performance enhancing substances after a 20- month investigation. The biggest names not previously tainted by rampant accusations were future Hall of Fame pitcher Roger Clemens along with his friend and former teammate with the New York Yankees and Houston Astros, Andy Pettitte. "For more than a decade, there has been widespread illegal use of anabolic steroids and other performance-enhancing substances by players in Major League Baseball in violation of federal law and baseball policy," Mitchell said at a press conference announcing the findings.

SPAMfighter: Global Economic Troubles Trigger Phishing Attacks ...
Phishing is when a scammer sends a fake e-mail, linking to a fake site where they in turn ask for personal information from the e-mail recipient. This information is usually bank information, which is then used to hack into their personal bank account. Phishing is very hard for a user to detect as both the e-mail and the site they are redirected to look very legitimate. All e-mail users are at risk of becoming a victim of financial e-mail scams and identity theft, which is one of the biggest threats in the United States today. Nevertheless, protecting your e-mail account with the proper program could avoid and lower the risk of falling victim to this scam, says, Alix Aranza, Managing Director for SPAMfighter in North America. The amount of attention on the global economic crisis has caused consumers to be more attentive to their financial assets, and in turn, an easy target for phishers.
